Advancing Years

Many people with age-related pain find that treatment and advice from an osteopath complements GP care and medicine

YVONNE WILDIG OSTEOPATH

I want to inspire people to use their bodies to live life to the full.

I am passionate about health and the optimal functioning of the human body.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a skilled manual therapy for the body.  Osteopaths are schooled to have an in-depth understanding of the body’s anatomy and biomechanical functions.  We are trained to use our hands and understand what we are feeling.  We work with the structure and function of the body, and base our principles on the wellbeing of an individual depending upon the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.  Using this learned knowledge, we can assess, treat and prevent health problems by moving and stretching the body’s tissues, including associated areas which may be contributing to the issue.  We try to restore a state of balance to the body.

The Techniques I Use

Osteopaths utilise a range of techniques, which vary with each osteopath.  They are based on what is appropriate for you and discussed with you prior to treatment to ensure you are comfortable with them.  They are intended to increase movement in restricted joints, relieve muscle tension, enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and help your body's own healing mechanisms.  The techniques I frequently use are:

  • HVLA (High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrust)

  • Gentle Joint Articulation

  • Muscle Energy Techniques

  • Soft Tissue Massage

  • Functional Technique

  • Dry Needling / Medical Acupuncture

  • Therapeutic Taping

  • Myofascial Release

  • Stretching

  • Sacrococcygeal Manipulation
